![]() Yura Yura Teikoku Most people are probably familiar with Tokyo psych/rock trio Yura Yura Teikoku from their heavy appearance on PSF's TOKYO FLASHBACK 2, but there's a whole lot more to them than straight-ahead riff pummelling as this batch of now-out-of-print vinyl from the group makes more than clear. SHIBIRE was produced and recorded by You Ishihara of White Heaven/Stars at Soichiro Nakamura of White Heaven's legendary Peace Music studio in 2003 (Ishihara also plays synth on one track) and takes The Stars' west coast rock fixation in a whole new direction. SHIBIRE is the weirdest of their full-length recordings, with the A-side sounding like a new-wave ethno-punk take on the psychedelic song-forms of The Silver Apples and the second Suicide album, with some whacked drum machine super-charging weird pop licks, lots of percussion and Japanese language lyrics. B side is tougher, with Quicksilver Messenger Service-styled hooks battling it out with hard glam licks and some Rallizes-informed acid rock. Yura Yura Teikoku bassist Chiyo Kamekawa is also a member of The Stars. Green vinyl with insert, limited copies. Highly recommended. (description courtesy of volcanictongue.com) "Dare Dakke?"
